A law-text, but something new

This is a new type of reference source to law-texts, and it's free for you to use here at our Internet site (but not to copy, please, nor remove copyright or other notices, modify or redistribute). It presents the full, unaltered text of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance in a new way. Whether you are studying the Ordinance for the first time or referring to it in the future, you will benefit from the greatly improved speed and convenience of ‘hypertext’ - see below.

What does it do? . . . Helps you absorb and refer to the text in the least time of any method

As you read the Ordinance on the computer screen, you will see underlined cross references to other Parts, sections, paragraph or sub-paragraphs. Click on these and you will immediately see the paragraph or section referred to. Then click on the ‘Back’ button on your screen to carry on reading at the point where you left off.

Terms that are defined as having a special meaning in the context of the Ordinance, defined in Section 2 of the Ordinance, are similarly treated: Click on the term, refer to the exact definition, and then resume reading. The fact that all such defined terms are underlined also brings to your attention words having an explicit meaning in the context of the Ordinance. Try it now: Click on here to jump to the definition of ‘complainant’ (it will be at the top of your screen), then in that definition, click on ‘relevant person’. Then click the ‘back’ button on your browser twice to return to this point. We include just a small section of the Ordinance here, to demonstrate the speed of reference. (If your Internet connection is slow, be reassured that installing our products on your own computer will result in vary fast response.)

How does it work? . . . ‘hypertext’

We use the latest ‘browser’ techniques from the Internet, but the software is run entirely on a computer in your office. No Internet connection is required. You will need a copy of Netscape Navigator 2.0 or later version, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 or later version (evaluation copies of both these browsers are available free from Netscape and Microsoft respectively, at the time of writing).

A bonus . . . Searchable versions of the Ordinance Text included

If you purchase this product on a disk from G&A, we provide two versions of the plain text of the Ordinance to allow searching by any word or phrase using the common word processor ‘Find’ facility . . . even easier reference to the Ordinance. Go to the G&A hypertext version of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance - over 2,600 hypertext links.
